Procaine HCl (Pharma Grade) is a local anesthetic of the amino ester class. It is the oldest synthetic local anesthetic still in clinical use and remains an important pharmaceutical API in human medicine.
Procaine blocks sodium ion channels in neuronal membranes, preventing the generation and conduction of nerve impulses and thereby blocking pain signal transmission. It is often combined with penicillin G (procaine penicillin) to provide prolonged antibiotic action. It is metabolized by plasma esterases, giving it a relatively short duration of action compared to amide-type anesthetics.
